GambleAware is Great Britain's leading independent charity commissioning gambling harm education, prevention, early intervention, and treatment services.

What is GambleAware

GambleAware is an evidence-based charity whose trustees and leadership team have extensive public health, NHS, and charity experience. It maintains a strong governance process to ensure the gambling industry has no input or influence on its work, and is accountable to the Charity Commission and its Board of Trustees.[1]

The charity's strategic aim is to broaden public understanding of gambling-related harms and to advance the cause of harm prevention, and to help those who do develop problems get the support they need quickly and effectively.[2]

Role in the Industry

GambleAware is a grant-making charity using best-practice commissioning - including needs assessment, service planning, evaluation, and outcome reporting - to support effective, evidence-informed, quality-assured prevention of gambling harms.

GambleAware works closely with the Gambling Commission, the Department for Digital, Media & Sport, the Department of Health and Social Care, and the Ministry of Defence.

History and Reach

GambleAware was incorporated on 28 February 2002 as a private limited company by guarantee (Companies House number 04384279), registered at 5th Floor, Lincoln House, 296–302 High Holborn, London, WC1V 7JH. GOV.UK The organisation was formerly known as the Responsible Gambling Trust, with the name change to GambleAware taking effect on 9 April 2018.[3]

It is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales under Charity No. 1093910, and also registered in Scotland under SC049433.[4]

GambleAware commissions the National Gambling Support Network (NGSN), a network of organisations across Great Britain providing free, non-judgmental, confidential treatment, advice and support on a range of gambling-related issues. This includes the National Gambling Helpline, which takes around 42,000 calls a year.

GambleAware reviews

GambleAware does not have a public Trustpilot or related pages. Critics have noted that GambleAware's funding model — relying on voluntary donations from the gambling industry — raises questions about independence, and that the voluntary levy has historically resulted in contributions falling short of the requested 0.1% of gross gambling yield.[6]
