South Australian Government body within the Department of Human Services that administers the Gamblers Rehabilitation Fund and coordinates gambling harm prevention, early intervention, and counselling services across the state.
What is Gambling Harm Support SA
Gambling Harm Support SA (GHS SA) is a unit within the South Australian Department of Human Services responsible for administering the Gamblers Rehabilitation Fund (GRF).[1] It does not deliver counselling directly but funds and coordinates the state-wide network of Gambling Help Services, the 24/7 Gambling Helpline (1800 858 858), contributions to the national platform, community education, research and evaluation activities.
The GRF is a joint initiative of the Australian Hotels Association (SA), Clubs SA, Adelaide Casino and the Government of South Australia, and was established in 1994.[2]
Role in the industry
Gambling Harm Support SA is the central coordinating body for gambling harm minimisation in South Australia. It operates under a public health framework spanning prevention, early intervention and treatment.[3]
GHS SA also runs public awareness campaigns (including "Spot the Harm. Stop the Harm." and "Here For The Game"), an Allied Sector Education program, a Community of Practice for professionals, and an annual Gambling Harm Action Week.[4][5][6][7]
