Gokstop (Centraal Register Uitsluiting Kansspelen) is a Dutch self-exclusion system that prevents people with a gambling problem from gambling.

What is Gokstop and how it works

Gokstop is maintained by the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Netherlands' official gambling regulator. The register has been active since 1 October 2021.

On 24 April 2023, KSA launched Cruks 2.0 with a simplified registration flow and a mandatory 8-day cooling-off period on de-registration. As of mid-2025, CRUKS has exceeded 100,000 registrations.

How Gokstop helps gamblers

A gambling stop means you immediately cannot gamble for at least 6 months - on licensed Dutch gambling websites, in gaming halls, or in casinos with a Dutch licence. Every time a player tries to sign up at a licensed operator, the system automatically checks the CRUKS database and returns a hit or no-hit. The exclusion does not apply to scratch cards and sports betting.

What you need for registration with Gokstop

• DigiD - the government digital identity, required for online registration. Free to obtain at digid.nl.
• Your surname and date of birth exactly as on your passport or ID card - including capitalisation and no typos. Only if all details are 100% correct can the stop be registered.
• Without DigiD: a paper form is available at cruksregister.nl/Gokstop, to be printed.

How to register at Gokstop online

1. Go to Gokstop.

2. Log in with DigiD.

3. Choose a duration: minimum 6 months, maximum 99 years. If no period is chosen, the default is 2 years.

4. Confirm. The stop is active immediately.

5. Download your digital proof of gambling stop from the CRUKS portal.

How to remove Gokstop self-exclusion

Step 1. Check if your self-exclusion period is over

Log in at cruksregister.nl with DigiD to check your current status and end date. The gambling stop ends automatically at the end of the chosen period - no action needed, no notification is sent.

Step 2. Contact Gokstop to make the cancellation request

Cancellation is only possible after the first 6 months have passed. Submit a cancellation request online via DigiD at cruksregister.nl (select "speelpauze aanpassen"), or send the paper form to [email protected] or by post to Kansspelautoriteit, Postbus 298, 2501 CG Den Haag.

Step 3. Cooling-off period

After requesting cancellation, a mandatory 8-day cooling-off period applies. During these 8 days you still cannot gamble.

Step 4. Cancellation

After 8 days the cancellation is final. You receive a confirmation and your CRUKS code is deactivated at all licensed operators.

Can I still gamble on Gokstop?

No. During a gambling stop you cannot gamble on licensed Dutch gambling sites, in gaming halls, or in casinos.

Is Gokstop available for all gambling sites?

It covers all providers with a Dutch KSA licence - online sites, gaming halls and casinos. Foreign unlicensed sites are not integrated in the register.

How to gamble online when on Gokstop?

You cannot at any KSA-licensed site. Unlicensed foreign sites are illegal for Dutch players under the Remote Gambling Act.

Can I cancel Gokstop before my self-exclusion ends?

No. The minimum period is 6 months and cannot be shortened, not even by the KSA. Kansspelautoriteit The only exception is proven DigiD identity fraud - file a police report first, then submit an objection to the KSA.

How long does it take to remove Gokstop?

8 days from the date of your cancellation request (mandatory cooling-off period).

Can I cancel Gokstop if I was signed up by someone else?

If someone used your DigiD without consent, file a police report for DigiD misuse, then submit a written objection to the KSA within 6 weeks, including a copy of the police report and the registration decision.
